Keith Urban at Betty Ford

The New York Daily News reports that Keith Urban is at the Betty Ford Center in Rancho Mirage, CA.  Nicole Kidman chose spending time with her husband on Sunday, over attending the New York premiere of her movie "Fur".  This left her "Fur" co-star Robert Downey Jr. to do the promotional heavy-lifting.

Nicole Richie Goes to Camp, er Rehab

Jeanette Walls reports that Nicole Richie:

"went AWOL from rehab — to go shopping."

Nicole had checked herself into one of the coziest, most comfortable treatment centers in the country.  The Beau Monde, located in Newport Beach CA, is extraordinarily expensive.  The center describes its services and costs this way:

All services are private, one-to-one and are confidentially located in beautiful seaside private luxury homes in Newport Beach, CA.  Rates for our programs range from $9875 per week (smaller private room with detached shared bath) to $14450 (large ocean view spa suite or executive suite w/loft) per week depending on accommodations chosen.   Programs are a minimum of  two weeks in length and average length of stay is 4 weeks. Medical drug detox with our program physicians is billed separately and averages $5000 (detox, acupuncture, amino acids, 1 month follow up). All services are private pay only in order to protect our clients' anonymity and to ensure total confidentiality.

The facility looks more like a fancy inn than a rehab facility.  Better still, its amenities include:

• jacuzzi with premium, imported spa products
• car with driver to local meetings
• personal assistant/companion, recreation coach daily
• off-site activities such as beach, whale watching, kayaking, gallery visits, shopping

Seeing the plush digs and luxurious amenities makes this facility seem like a comfortable place to explore uncomfortable truths.

Nicole Richie's treatment

People reports that Nicole Richie has decided to seek treatment for her weight (she weighs only 90 lbs).  Her rep told People that Richie:

had decided "to undergo diagnostic treatment to determine why she's not been putting on any weight," but stressed, "this is not a treatment for an eating disorder."

The program is out-patient, as Richie has been seen shopping, lunching and partying.  In the meantime, the producers of Richie's show The Simple Life are delaying shooting until she is ready.

 

Keith Urban and rehab

Keith Urban entered rehab -- apparently at the insistence of his new wife, Nicole Kidman.  In an announcement on October 20, he said the following:

"I deeply regret the hurt this has caused Nicole and the ones that love and support me.  One can never let one's guard down on recovery, and I'm afraid that I have."

Urban has scrapped his public appearances, including those associated with the launch of his new album on November 7.

This isn't the first time Keith has sought treatment.  In 1998, he was freebasing cocaine, and wound up checking himself into Cumberland Heights, a rehab facility in Nashville that specializes in alcohol and drug addiction.  The facility is located on a large farm, where its residents live in men's and women's cabins, and where they share the use of only one pay phone.  It is unknown whether he has returned to Cumberland Heights, or whether he has entered a program elsewhere.
